Potluck Dinners
Every fall and spring, people open their homes for potluck dinners. There are sign-up sheets at the Welcome Table. This is an excellent way for newcomers to meet people in the church, and for everyone to meet people they haven't had a chance to know yet!
The Rummage Sales
Every fall and spring, the church holds a Rummage Sale. We all clean out our closets and donate to the Sale. There are long lines of tables in the Vestry piled high with clothing for men, women, and children. We also have a linens table, a household appliances table, and an Attic Treasures table. The Sale is a valued service to the community at large, as can be seen here:
The Holiday Fair
The first Saturday in December is always reserved for The Old-Fashioned Holiday Fair! The Fair is an all-church activity, and has been part of the church for more than a century. Quite a lot of holiday shopping by the community gets done at the Fair. And there is always the opportunity to sit down and have some coffee and a bun. And do stay for lunch; Norma's Famous Ham Loaf will be served again this year!
Here are photos of the Fair.
The Community Carol Sing
On the second Saturday in December, the entire community is invited to the church to sing carols. Every year the church is absolutely packed, so come early to get a seat!
A feature of the Carol Sing is "Handel Off The Wall," where everyone belts out the Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah from words and music projected on the wall. And a rocking good time is had by all!
The Clarke Lectures
These occur on the third Saturday of January, February, and March. The topics are always related to Nature. Dinner is served.
The topics of the programs last year were the lives of the coyote in New England, the city of Montpelier's Natural Communities Inventory Mapping Project, and a conservation effort in Patagonia aimed at creating a new national park there.
