photo of Sherri Sherri Glebus is our Director of Religious Education.

She holds a B.S. degree in Secondary Education in English and an M.A degree in Religion, Spirituality and Women's Studies (Union Institute and University).

She has a fifteen-year background in alternative education and social work. She directed an academic program for teenage mothers who had dropped out of high school, and still works with teen mothers living in transitional housing. She served for two years as Director of Religious Education at the Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Society in Middlebury, VT.

In Sherri's own words:

My passion and interest lies in the bridge in the human heart, mind and soul between religion/spirituality and justice and peace for the web of life in which we are a part.

As UU religious educators, I believe that we are in a position to develop these bridges from earliest childhood through adulthood in ways that foster compassion, understanding, knowledge and love-in-action. In this way, we participate in the creation of a just, peaceful, healthy world.

I have envisioned the RE program as a foundation, like a house foundation, that children build their house of spiritual exploration and growth on over the course of their lifetimes. In the foundation that we have provided there is a tradition to draw on and the seeds for growing a personal theology. There is a toolbox that consists of religious and spiritual language, ritual and ways to engage the head, heart and hands in building and using one's personal truths. And there are the fruits of the connections made with oneself, others, community, nature and non-human beings.

Sherri has a 13-year-old daughter, Amy, who is a member of the Jr. Youth Group.
